Haykal

In January 2024, I participated in OFFCUT/CUTOFF, a three-week design workshop in Bahrain focused on repurposing industrial waste streams. Working inside the Awal Group's manufacturing facility, my team collaborated with local Bahraini designers to rework stainless steel offcuts from sink and drain production. The remnants, typically sold as scrap, were bent and joined into modular units that offered structural strength with minimal additional material.

Through on-site fabrication training, we learned welding, grinding, cutting, pressing, and polishing directly from factory metalworkers. Using these techniques, my team developed a small catalog of furniture and lighting prototypes that reimagined the potential of discarded industrial material. The workshop culminated in a public exhibition of the work at the historic Pearling Path in Muharraq, Bahrain.
