Glendale House
This renovation reimagines a 1920s Spanish-style cottage in the Glendale Hills for a growing family. The design expands the home’s footprint, adding a backyard accessory structure and a front pergola that creates a flexible outdoor living space. Throughout the remodel, the project carefully balances preservation and transformation, retaining original architectural features such as arched passageways, cove ceilings, and plaster walls while introducing new elements that enhance livability and strengthen the home’s connection to the outdoors.
To improve functionality, the interior layout was reconfigured to expand the kitchen, add a second bathroom, and integrate custom millwork throughout the living spaces. Built-in cabinetry was designed to accommodate the clients’ record collection, while bold checkerboard motifs unify the updated interiors. From initial concept design through construction documentation, I collaborated closely with the team and clients to refine every detail, resulting in a colorful, highly functional home that blends historic character with contemporary needs.
